Requirements for TVET courses
There are a number of requirements that a student should meet in order for him or her to study TVET courses in Kenya. They include the following:
KCPE/KCSE certificate for artisan courses
TVET courses does not demand much from a student. Grades in KCPE/KCSE is not a limit as one can pursue selected artisan courses in different institutions as long as they have a certified certificate.
Some courses will demand from a student a KCPE certificate while others will require both KCPE and KCSE certificates.
Minimum entry requirements for TVET courses
- Mean grade D plain for certificate courses
To pursue a certificate course in a TVE institutions, one should have scored at least D (Plain) in their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). Some certificate courses require only a KCPE/KCSE certificate regardless of the grade/points.
Mean grade C- (minus) for Diploma courses.
Note that, all institutions that offer Diploma courses to students require them to have a mean grade of C- (Minus) and above in their KCSE. This run across all the courses including medical courses that demand a student to have scored C- (Minus). Minimum subjects requirement is a must. One has to prove that be or she was well conversant with other subjects beside the mean grade.
The minimum entry requirements also vary depending with the institution. Therefore, before making an application, it’s important to inquire from the institution that one wants to enroll in. Entry requirements differ from one institution to the other. TVET courses could be the same, but some colleges implement new methodologies and approaching during teaching.
Respective Diploma for Higher Diploma Courses
To be enrolled for a higher diploma, one needs to have graduated with a diploma in field the same field or any closely related filed. Noteworthy, it is advisable to enroll for the same course or a course that is closely related because the criteria and methodologies apply.
